Calaveras Wines is a site maintained by the Calaveras Winemakers Cooperative, a group of winemakers, winery owners, and vineyard owners in the county. Our goal is to promote Calaveras County wines, vineyards, and wineries, and to improve the quality of wine of our members and of other interested winemakers.
Wine. It's something that we know a lot about. Since the 1980s, Calaveras county has been producing local wines, growing grapes, establishing vineyards, and creating a new product for our region. At our main site, we, the winemakers of Calaveras county, are dedicated to showcasing the wines we produce, and the area where we feature them.
So far, we have several wineries devoted to the cause. Irish Vineyards of Vallecito is one. Zucca Mountain Vineyards is another from the Murphys area. And Chiarella Wines is a third, hailing from Angels Camp. Between these wineries, a plethora of varietals are produced, including wines such as Sangiovese Rosato, Tesoro, Syrah Port, Barbera, Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Grenache, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah and Reserve Syrah, Blarney White, Slainte, Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Malvasia Bianca, Apricot Wine, Wicklow Rose, Blarney Red, Tempranillo, Kilkenny Red, Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah, Pour'it Tawny Granche (port), Grand Cuvee Champagne, Raspberry Champagne, Almond Champagne, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
As you can see, our wide variety of wines testifies to the wonderful growing conditions in Calaveras county for grapes, and the thriving industry of producing wine. In addition to the numerous tasting rooms (Murphys, CA, has over ten tasting rooms alone--many other wineries are within easy driving distance), there are many wine events that draw visitors to the area, including the Grape Stomp, the Passport Weekend, the President's Weekend and Wine Fest, Wine and Cheese Pairing parties, and much more. Tourists to our area don't want to miss any of these wine and winery events (please see our Calendar of Wine Events for more details about what's coming up in the future).
